Come and enjoy the rural environment of Montejaque, located in the Serrania de Ronda in the province of Malaga (on the border with Cadiz). This lovely pueblo blanco (white village) is also surrounded by the beautiful Grazalema Natural Park.
Fuente Marchal is an old farm, renovated to cosy, country-cottage-style rooms and houses – or, as the Spanish call them, casitas. There are plenty of facilities to meet everyone's needs, including barbecues, a fabulous swimming pool and several furnished terraces with stunning views.
* *A siesta is a short nap taken in the early afternoon, often after the midday meal, when the sun has reached its highest point. This period of sleep is a common tradition in hot countries, particularly in Spain.
**The word 'siesta' is derived from the Latin 'sexta' (hora – "the sixth hour"). The Romans counted their hours starting from sunrise; because of this, the sixth hour became noon.
Montejaque is a small, typical Andalusian pueblo blanco with less than 1,000 inhabitants, situated in the Serrania de Ronda mountain range.
The village is known for its characteristic steep, winding, narrow streets and white houses. The location of Fuente Marchal provides panoramic views over the Montejaque and the surrounding area.
We are within easy driving distance of the historic town of Ronda and many other pueblos blancos in the neighbourhood; there is always something to see or do. Be sure to pay a visit to the Natural Parks of Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves – birdwatchers in particular will like it here.
There are a lot of interesting and historical places you just have to see, only a few miles away...
Visit the Cueva de la Pileta, discovered in 1905, with its 20,000-year-old cave drawings. Or take a hike through the Hundidero Cave, which is very popular with pot-holers.
A lot of typical Spanish traditions, like flamenco dancing and bullfighting, have their origins in Andalusia.
Find time to visit the ruins of Acinipo, a city created more than 2,000 years ago for retired soldiers from the Roman legions. The ruins include a Roman amphitheatre still in use today.
The Mediterranean climate influences the weather in Andalusia. The summers are dry and warm, the winters mild. But there is much diversity in Andalusia, from the wide cost to the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The average yearly temperature is more than 16oC. January is the coldest month, and July and August are the hottest, with an average temperature of 28.5°C.
The beaches of the Costa del Sol and those of Costa de la Luz are worth a visit year-round.
Montejaque and its surroundings have a lot to offer. You can participate in numerous outdoor activities, organised by us or by the many local agencies.
You can go hiking, walking, bird-watching, biking, swimming, climbing, canoeing, horseback-riding, donkey-riding, 4 x 4 cross-country ...
